AEL the leader in the standings, took their side to Larnaca to encounter a tough AEK side at the AEK Arena. This match was to test both clubs of their championship credentials. The expectation was that it was going to be a closely contested game with both clubs trying to force their style on the other. AEL playing the high tempo pressing game while AEK playing the passing game to control the play.

The game was fiercely battled out in the first half with 4 AEL players getting into the referee's small book. The game suddenly came to life after the half hour mark when AEL managed to force the tempo and created more chances and forced Tono to make 3 saves in a row. AEK then went the other side and nearly caught Procek off his line.

AEL started the second half pressing early and had a header come off the bottom of the post. Minutes later came the moment that decided the match. A silly mistake by the experienced Tono that gifted AEL the 3 points. The ball was passed back to Tono for an easy clearance and a hoof up the field. Jurado who was pressing continued his run to try and force an error from Tono and that he did. Tono decided to pull back the ball and feint Jurado instead of kicking it away. Jurado easily nicked the ball away and had only an empty net to beat as Tono was out of his goal. AEK controlled the game after but without any clear chances and AEL where happy to let AEK have the ball and see the time run down and return to Limassol with the 3 valuable points.

This game will be remembered by Tono's mistake and how he gifted AEL the table leaders with another 3 points. Ruben Jurado strikes again for his 6th goal of the championship and he is turning out to be a shrewd piece of business by AEL this summer. AEK and Apollon will be busy preparing for their midweek European journeys while AEL will have the week to prepare for the upcoming Limassol derby with Apollon.
