Limassol Derby: Apollon takes on AEL
09 February 2019
The Limassol Derby arrives today and both clubs want to lay claims for their championship title credentials. Apollon are still fuming from the last game against Anorthosis and would like to right the ship back on course. AEL have been hit with injuries to key players but that has not slowed them down and have added new players before the closing of the transfer window.

Apollon have raised a case at the ΚΟΠ (CFA) against Anorthosis having an ineligible player in the shape of the newly recruited young goalkeeper Francis Uzoho. If the case is ruled in Apollon's favour then that will boost them on their way to the title. Until then Apollon should focus on the task at hand which is their opponents tonight, their fierce city rivals AEL. The Apollon front three are a scoring machine this season and Apollon are the highest scoring team in the league. AEL will have their hands full in trying to stop the Apollon attacks. Facundo Pereyra, Emilio Zelaya and Anton Maglica have been unstoppable and have only been shutdown in two games all season. Apollon have had a stable side all season and go into their fixtures full of confidence.
AEL have been hit with some key players and have found new recruits to come in and give the club the boost for the title run. Alex Da Silva is not fully fit and will not start this game as it would have meant a lot for him to play against his old club and reverse the loss from the earlier encounter where Apollon won 3-0. Manu Torres is also out recovering and will miss this fixture. AEL have recruited Jarcinho from Omonia recently and who might prove to be a winning card in this closely contested game. AEL have been inconsistent lately but will want to come on top when the whistle blows at the end of the match.

The match is expected to be contested at full speed with both teams playing at fast pace. It will be a contest of AEL's pressing game against Apollon's attacking play. The selection of the players and tactics will decide this contest and the result will show that the match is also contested on the sidelines between the coaches Sofronis Avgousti and Dusan Kerkez.
